Reactive Space Experiment  :  Stimulus Response Test
USING ARCHITECTURE AS AN INSTRUMENT OF IMMERSION
THE STIMULUS RESPONSE TEST.
Three classically trained musician students and I put on an hour long reactive installation on the April 31st 2023, under the collective name Clicks + Cuts.
As the sole visual artist/designer in the group, I was tasked to be art director for the leading concept and production design of the space. The users entered the space with no prior knowledge of what to expect. They were greated by an "analogue control panel interface" and a large projection screen. When interacting with the interface, the users could manipulate the sounds and visuals within the 3D space.
We hosted Stimulus Response Test in a room with 36 speakers in with walls and 8 sub speaker in the floor - maximizing user immersion and thus increasing likelihood of a powerful emotional response.
The Clicks + Cuts Interface :

The facade of the interface housed 50 potentiometer knobs and 20 sliders and a CRT display.
Below this facade were 3 MIDI keyboards. Each knob or slider was either mapped to a musical element via Ableton, or a visual effect via Isadora. Thus giving the illusion of a more complex mechanics at play.
